Hockey coach
Fort Collins, CO 80521
Dear Mr. Martino:
As you know now I am planning on applying to St. Cloud State University in Minnesota for college. Along with this I am applying for the University’s scholarships as well. So I was wondering if you would be as so kind to write me a letter of recommendation for me to submit with my application. Since I had you as a coach during the Midget Major AA season of 2010 you are aware of the passion I put into everything I do and how I get along with everyone. You also know the morals and ethics I have as a person.
As my hockey coach you know that I am a responsible young man. I take everything seriously and professional as I can. You know about my stride and desire to get to the next level. I am applying to St. Cloud State University where I plan to have a major in athletic training, and a minor in psychology. Since you have witnessed my work ethics I am requesting for you to write me a letter of recommendation. I have been a part of athletic training groups for the past 3 years, and have been playing competitive hockey for the past 4 years. This will help with the basic knowledge of the major and the experience of playing on a competitive team will prepare me for a rigorous college experience.
If you could get the letter to me by February 22, 2011 please, either by email or in person. Thank you very much for helping me, and I am very grateful for you taking the time out of your busy schedule to write me a letter of recommendation. If you need more information please contact me (phone: (970) 290-4373 or by email: beastlyblazer33@gmail.com).
Sincerely,
Brett Blatzer

People and events can impact our lives in profound ways. Tell us about an experiance that significantly affected who you are as a person or student.
The most meaningful event in my life that has taught me a lot happened only a few months ago. This opportunity came when my hockey team was able to go through the fire fighting combat test with the Longmont Fire Department in Longmont, Colorado. The obstacle course consisted of picking up a ladder off of two rings holding it against a wall, and walking backwards past a line and putting the ladder back against the wall. The next part of the excersise was to extend a ladder up a wall and bringing it back down. Then came the part where I would take a fully charged hose and drag it a certain distance and then drag it past the line I first started from. After that we had to pick up two bags and weave through cones and come back, only to pick up a simulated "jaws of life" machine and proceed through the cones once again. Next came the hose and oxygen tank carry. I had to carry a hose up three flights of stairs three different times, and each time I got to the top or bottom I had to drop what I had and pick up a new tank or hose. After the hose and tank carry the next obstacle was to hit a heavy brick past a line on the sled it sat on. The last part of the test was to drag a 180 pound dummy down around a cone and back with time stopping after the feet past the line it started on. This test is to be done in under ten minutes for a pass. After it was all said and done I came out on top with the best time of my whole team, and still beating the ten minute mark with minutes to spare. This experiance taught me a lot about who I am as a person and what I want to do with my life. The first and foremost thing I learned from this is that I want to become a firefighter. I learned how hard it is to be a public servant. I realized that all of the firefighter in the city of Longmont take their job very seriously, and work very hard just by the way the test was, and that I would have to work that hard if not harder to become a firefighter in my lifetime. This experiance is going to be helpful in my life because it is giving me motivation to work hard at everything I am doing. It serves as a reminder of how hard it will be to work and become a firefighter. Finally it is a memory that will remain with me to ensure that I follow my dream and desires to finish college, earn all of the required ceritfications, and finally become a firefighter.
